Hola Mamasitas!

Lately it seems as if we have entered an era of Baby Booming. Just about every celebrity or normal human being is plunging into the journey of motherhood. Which declares how much the world has changed because most women usually waited until well into their thirties before contemplating motherhood.

It is a good thing to see the restoration of family values trying to make a comeback in a very jaded, warped world. There are just a few things that bother me about this whole resurgence of motherhood. I know I am probably going to get flack for this; for one, I am not a mother, so people are going to think I have no right voicing my opinions, and two, these are things that no one dare talks about.

My first pet peeve with women who are in the family way is, why do they wear clothing that is stuck to their bodies like glue? To me, they look sort of alien, and not very appealing. They may be trying to maintain their sexiness but I think it makes people feel a bit “put off” by their protruding stomachs. Quite honestly, it looks uncomfortable and I often wonder if the baby is suffocating. Whatever happened to the days when women wore “I love Lucy” maternity fashions? It made women look so demure and sophisticated.

I know many women will respond exclaiming,”It is so difficult to find clothes to wear because pregnancy is uncomfortable.” I say, that is because they are going against the shape of their bodies at that particular time. More material is often the best way to go. If off the peg clothes are not doing it for you, then have your clothes made by a dressmaker.

The next pet peeve about pregnancy is why do women feel the need to wear stiletto heels when pregnant? It is dangerous for them and a detriment to the babies they are carrying. When I view a pregnant woman wearing very high heels I sometimes feel as if she is going to topple over any moment. Pregnant women complain about swelling, aching feet, yet, they think wearing uncomfortable stilettos are the solution? I think not…. It looks so much more refined and nicer when they opt for elegant flat shoes. Besides, it is safer for them and their babies.

The next pet peeve with regard to women and pregnancy is, why do some women continue to drink and smoke while pregnant? Cigarette smoke can cause fetal damage and low weight babies, not to mention, a multitude of other complications. If it is stress they are trying to relieve, then try chewing xylitol gum, yoga or meditation. Clogging their lungs and causing the babies discomfort in no way suggests good maternal instincts.

Then there is the question of consuming alcohol, why do women feel the need to drink when “preggers”? Once you are pregnant, the deed is already done. It is a time in women’s lives when they should just relax and enjoy. They should focus on happy, positive thoughts so they can have healthy babies.

For a period of their lives, the ship sails on their siren like qualities. It is an era where they should choose to wear comfortable becoming clothing that does not accentuate their baby bumps or draw attention to their expanding bits. Looking well put together and reserved can be just as enticing as letting it all hang out.

After the baby is born and they are in situations which require them to provide sustenance for their babies, I think they have a right to cover their wares properly, while providing nourishment for their infants.

Embarking on motherhood is a special time in women’s lives, they become poster models for future generations. If they do not radiate joy, comfort and well being, then other women will forego the challenge…..
