Healthcare Without Harm

Our world has changed so much that many of the activities and services we once took for granted are now becoming novelties. For instance, who would have thought that a necessary act such as receiving health care would prove to be a treacherous undertaking?

Believe it or not, today when you visit your physician’s office you are actually taking your life into your own hands. It seems as if doctors who participate in various health insurance programs lack the stamina and professionalism to extend the same quality services they do to patients who may pay cash for services.

After enduring a few harrowing experiences of my own where the wrong medications were dispensed to me, I realized that I was not the only person enduring such underhanded treatments.

We have reached a point in this country where professionals, as well as lay people, will withhold goods and services to individuals who are well-off or who they may not be fond of.

Although it may be a violation of human rights and a disregard for the Hippocratic Oath many have taken the bold move to withhold treatments for whatever ransom their heart desires.

In addition to receiving payment for their services, many feel that if they are not showered with gifts and trinkets then their patients better watch out because their medications may just mysteriously carry the wrong dosages or become substituted for inferior more harmful products.

At first , I thought all the experiences I had encountered medically were specifically directed towards me. Then, I conducted some research of my own and found out there were individuals who were chronically ill, who felt that if they did not play up to medical personnel by giving them gifts then they would somehow be poisoned through prescription medications or they could have a sinister mishap.

My findings had me wondering, what happens when the patients do not have the money to cater to them with goodies? What happens then? Will there be a wave of mysterious deaths taking over planet earth?

The bottom line is, most individuals who are in the healing arts have taken an oath to be healers no matter what. Therefore, they are bound by God and the law to perform stellar health care services without being lauded and applauded all the time.

Just like regular folks who have a job to do on a daily basis and do their jobs so they can get paid. So it should be for healthcare professionals. Their biased behavior needs to be put on pause whilst they give the communities they serve nothing less than exemplary service.

Many health care providers choose to participate in various health plans because it is a guaranteed paycheck on a monthly basis. However with the new changes in the health care system, many are being slighted with payments thus causing them to have a less than enthusiastic attitude towards their patients.

In years gone by doctors treated patients fairly and equally because they loved the craft of healing and truly wanted to make a difference. Today, they are more concerned with accolades and rewards whilst giving their patients inferior services.

The truth is, the accolades come when a patient takes the time to select any one of them for healing. It is an honor that should not be taken lightly.

After all, we are not dealing with toddlers who have to be given a gold star each time they attain a milestone of achievement!
